A Spootiskerry Wedding - 05/08/17
Callum (our bass player) and Amy (who has played guitar with us when Rory couldn't make it) got married in the Winter Gardens in Glasgow Green, and of course picked their favourite ceilidh band to play for the day. Jake was best man as well as playing fiddle and calling the ceilidh. What a great night!

Shennaghys Jui Folk Festival - Isle of Man 26-30/03/15
We travelled to the Isle of Man to play at the Shennaghys Jui (Manx: Tradition Today) folk festival. Whilst there we played at several gigs, a ceilidh and rans short workshops at local primary schools. We also spent incalculable hours playing at pub sessions with the other musicians from the Isle of Man, Ireland and Cornwall. We were very impressed by the festival and had an excellent time, and a big thanks to the organisers who made it a great success despite last minute problems with venues.

Spootiskerry Sings!
We recorded a couple of songs in December 2014 which we also perform between dances at our ceilidhs. It has been really fun adding these and more to our repertoire.

A Swedish folk tune that we picked up when we went to Sweden to play for a ceilidh. It is a bit of a change from our usual sets, and great fun to play.
The song tells the story of the day when the Devil comes to the village of Hårga disguised as a fiddle player. His playing is so wild that the youth of Hårga cannot stop dancing. Even when their families go to the church to pray for them they cannot stop until they have all danced themselves to death. One of the dancers at the ceilidh (who like the rest of the crowd had never tried Scottish dancing before) said that he had thoroughly enjoyed the dancing, so much so that the final Strip the Willow had started to remind him of this tale! A great night was had by all! |

Spootiskerry Reel, SVA Ceilidh, 03/02/14
Thanks go to Craig Reilly for the video, unfortunately the lighting conditions were very dark so we're a bit hard to see. On the stage we have Jake and Cameron on Fiddles, Johanna on Piano, Rory on Guitar, and Callum on Bass.

Spootiskerry Ceilidh Band visits Potsdam, Berlin 23/01/14
Whist we had a very cut back band, with just Jake and Callum, we had a great time and the dancers thoroughly enjoyed it too. A real test of Callum's calling skills, with only one dancer having been at a ceilidh before, but Callum was able to keep them right and a great night was had by all. (oh, and thanks for the great hospitality and whisky!)
